On 2WD models 1.9ltr or 2.1ltr, this grommet goes into the fuel expansion tanks, while in 4wd models this grommet goes into the fuel tank. In either case, there are two of these grommets per vehicle. Although VW discontinued making this part, we have now come up with a matching substitute. It is always best to have the overflow and evap. system sealed, but additionally, at least in California, the smog test requires that the system be airtight and hold pressure, so we are pleased that we have this part available again.
