Transmission Bell Housing Oil Slinger
The bell housing oil slinger fits 1980-1991 Vanagon four- and five-speed manual transmissions. It also fits Type 2 bus manual transmissions from 1968-1979.
This slinger is located in the bell housing of the transmission behind the throwout bearing guide tube and input shaft seal. You'll need to remove the input shaft seal to check this part, but seals are cheap and perhaps worth changing while you're in there anyway.
We HIGHLY recommend checking to see if the oil slinger in your van's bell housing has come loose every time you do a clutch job or replace the pilot bearing. If loose, it can rub on the input shaft and possibly giving you big headaches and expensive repairs.
